When I first began working with John Hyams on Alone, one of the central ideas we discussed was restraint. Rather than approaching the film with a traditional score, the challenge was to let the music emerge from the world of the film itself. The story unfolds in isolation, surrounded by vast natural spaces, and we wanted the sound of that environment to become part of the musical language.

The score grew out of incredibly soft textures and subtle rhythmic ideas that were built from the sounds around the characters. Footsteps, movement, and elements of the natural world were shaped into patterns and pulses that blurred the line between sound design and music. The goal was to create something almost invisible, allowing the tension of the film to build naturally while the sound of the world itself slowly becomes the score.
