Bad Hombre marked my second collaboration with director John Stahlberg, and from the beginning we talked about creating a score that felt unsettling but still carried a strong identity. The film moves through a tense and morally ambiguous world, so the music needed to reflect that unease while still feeling bold and memorable.
The sonic palette grew out of the contrast between organic instruments and electronic textures. Saxophones became a central voice in the score, bringing a raw and expressive quality, while modular and analog synthesizers added a darker, more unstable foundation underneath. The combination allowed the music to move between something familiar and something slightly distorted, creating a sound that feels both iconic and quietly unsettling at the same time.
