When I began working on The Devil Below, the challenge was to create a musical world that felt ancient and threatening, something that could live underneath the earth just as much as the creatures in the film do. The story takes place in a remote mining town with a long forgotten past, and the music needed to carry that sense of buried history and unease.
I approached the score with the idea of building a dark sonic landscape, using deep orchestral textures, low brass, and evolving sound design elements to create a constant sense of pressure beneath the surface. The goal was to make the music feel like something emerging from underground, slowly rising and surrounding the characters as they descend deeper into the unknown.
